Meeting an unknown Indian at Gatwick Airport, Giuseppe is reminded of the time he worked for a hygienic paper making machine company and how he sold one older machine to a company in India (and the problems it caused). While the Indian's visit to Italy was perfect, the return trip to Mandla District in Madhya Pradesh resembled something from Dante's Purgatory. A train journey throughout the night, an industrial village reminiscent of Blake's Satanic Mills and a bleak hotel (guest house?) with unidentifiable food and geckos on the walls. Even after leaving, the sales group find that their train to Kalkota doesn't get to Kalkota which necessitates a mad car ride to get the aeroplane back to Italy on time. Giuseppe remains in India to make some more contacts travelling up towards the Himalayan Peaks, and even manages to encounter some of the strangest people on the planet.
