Whispers from the Past

The Whisper Falls series is unique in that it seamlessly combines historical fiction with a contemporary love story through magical realism and time travel.  In the third book in the series, Whispers from the Past, Mark and Susanna are looking ahead to what their futures hold.  Mark’s focus is on choosing a college, while Susanna is trying to decide on what her dreams hold.  In the midst of this, Susanna discovers letters from a dear friend from the past.  Susanna must confront the consequences that her choices have made across two centuries and decide how to forge ahead into her future. The historical aspects of this series have been meticulously researched by the author, including using primary sources, and edited by a middle-school social-studies teacher.  The Whisper Falls series is excellent for teaching the young adult audience about life in post-Revolutionary America, particularly the life of an indentured servant in North Carolina.  The Whisper Falls series has received national marketing attention, including being featured at Book Expo America (BEA 2013 & 2014) and advertised in Booklist magazine (February 2014).  The author actively promotes her books through local presentations, book signings, social media, and participation in national conferences.  In 2013, Whisper Falls won a bronze medal from the Moonbeam Award for Exemplary Children’s Fiction (YA Historical Fiction).
